Which cycle this describes

This page records PG counselling 2026, for MD, MS and DNB seats filled through NEET-PG 2026. It follows MCC’s information bulletin and its tentative All India Quota schedule, both published in October 2026. The PDF of the bulletin that MCC links as its “PG Information Bulletin 2026” carries the header “PG Bulletin DRAFT – V10 05102026”. MCC issues a fresh bulletin for each cycle, and this page will follow it.

Which seats MCC allots

According to the 2026 bulletin, MCC counsels:

  • the 50% All India Quota of the seats contributed by the states, together with 50% of the seats at Delhi University, Aligarh Muslim University, Banaras Hindu University and the central institutes
  • 100% of seats in deemed universities
  • seats at central universities and institutes, including CIP Ranchi and LGBRIMH Tezpur
  • seats of the Armed Forces Medical Services institutions, with any surplus offered to other candidates
  • 100% of DNB seats, except in-service DNB seats

State quota seats are counselled by each state’s own authority, not by MCC.

Four rounds

There are four rounds: Round 1, Round 2, Round 3 and an online stray vacancy round.

Your situationWhat the bulletin says
Allotted a seat in Round 1 and you do not want itYou may take free exit and go straight into Round 2 without losing the deposit. Not reporting as a Round 1 “freeze” candidate also counts as free exit. Free exit exists only in Round 1
Joined in Round 1 and want a better seatGive willingness for upgradation online and upload documents; physical reporting is not needed. If you are upgraded in Round 2, your Round 1 seat is cancelled at once and given to someone else, and you must take online relieving and join the new seat or lose the deposit
Allotted a seat in Round 2 or later and you do not joinThe security deposit is forfeited
Joined in Round 3You cannot upgrade or resign from a Round 3 seat. Not joining a Round 3 seat means forfeiture and elimination from any further MCC round
Stray vacancy roundFresh registration and fresh choice filling, with allotment run online. Only candidates who hold no seat, or did not take part in the earlier rounds, may take part. An allotted candidate who does not join forfeits the deposit

The deposit is also forfeited if an admission is cancelled for any reason, such as wrong information or missing documents.

Round 2 is being rescheduled. On its PG counselling page MCC says it received the seat matrix of newly approved seats for Round 2 from the National Medical Commission on 3 November 2026, that institutes will verify it after applying the reservation roster until 6 November, and that the Round 2 schedule will therefore be rescheduled from 7 November 2026. The Round 2, Round 3 and stray round dates in the tentative schedule are not repeated here until MCC publishes the revised schedule.

The tentative schedule prints 20 November 2026 as the start of the PG academic session. Round 1 windows are tracked under Deadlines.

The seat matrix

The National Medical Commission’s postgraduate seat matrix for 2026–27, sent to colleges and MCC on 29 September 2026, is the list of approved seats colleges may admit against. Seats applied for as an increase in intake or as new courses appear in later updates — which is what MCC received for Round 2.

Fees, bonds and stipends

MCC states that stipend, fees, bond and service conditions may vary from state to state and institute to institute, and that it takes no responsibility for them or for errors in the information colleges provide. Confirm them with each college before filling choices.

Before counselling: NEET-PG

Eligibility for this counselling comes from qualifying NEET-PG. Candidates with benchmark disabilities are assessed under the NMC’s guidelines for postgraduate admission by the Medical Assessment Boards MCC lists. The institutes of national importance — the AIIMS, JIPMER, PGIMER, NIMHANS and SCTIMST — admit through INI-CET instead.
