INI-CET January 2027: eligibility, pattern, percentiles and dates

Which institutes and courses

INI-CET is the combined entrance test for MD, MS, DM (six-year), MCh (six-year), MDS and MD (Hospital Administration) at 23 Institutes of National Importance for the January 2027 session:

AIIMS New Delhi runs the application, examination, results and seat allocation. Admission itself is governed by each institute’s rules, set out in that institute’s Prospectus Part B — which also covers institute-specific eligibility, stipend, leave, hostels, admission fees and penalties for resignation. Where Part A and Part B conflict, the institute’s rules apply.

January 2027 dates

Eligibility

Indian nationals

• Degree: MBBS (BDS for MDS) from a university recognised by the NMC/MCI (DCI for dental).
• Internship: the twelve-month compulsory rotating internship completed on or before 31 January 2027. Candidates finishing later are not eligible to register.
• Minimum marks — aggregate of all MBBS professional examinations, not just the final: 50% for SC/ST, 55% for all others including OBC and EWS. PwBD candidates take their category’s figure. Where a subject was cleared at a supplementary examination, the marks from the successful attempt are used.
• Indian nationals who graduated abroad: FMGE marks are considered instead of the aggregate, with the same minimums.
• Registration: provisional or permanent registration with the NMC, DCI or a State Medical or Dental Council is needed to apply. Selected candidates must also register with the council of the state where the institute is located for the duration of the course.
• Already have or pursuing a PG degree? Candidates who have done, or are pursuing, MD, MS, MDS, DM (six-year), MCh (six-year) or MD (Hospital Administration) in any subject at the time of seat allocation are not considered, and must give an undertaking to that effect.

Sponsored candidates

The same minimum marks apply. The candidate must be an employee of the sponsoring authority with three years’ service as on 31 January 2027 for the AIIMS institutes, SCTIMST and NIMHANS, or 31 December 2026 for JIPMER and PGIMER. Sponsored and foreign-national seats are advertised separately from general seats, and candidates are not eligible across the two.

Foreign nationals and OCI cardholders

• Foreign nationals: MBBS with the same internship date, 55% aggregate or equivalent, and a no-objection certificate from the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare — an NOC only from the Ministry of External Affairs is not accepted.
• OCI cardholders, following the Supreme Court’s decision of 3 February 2023 in W.P. (C) 891 of 2021: those born before 4 March 2021 who obtained the OCI card before that date are treated as Indian nationals, eligible only for unreserved Indian-national seats. Other OCI/PIO cardholders are treated as foreign nationals. OCI candidates do not need an NOC, but must upload the earliest issued valid OCI card; uploading only a newer card counts as false information.

A candidate cannot be eligible for both Indian-national and foreign-national seats.

The paper

Candidates choose three states, in order of preference, for their centre. States are allotted first-come-first-served on completing the application, subject to available computer nodes, and cannot be changed afterwards.

PwBD candidates with blindness, locomotor disability affecting both arms, or cerebral palsy may have a scribe and 20 minutes of compensatory time per hour, on self-undertaking; others with benchmark or lesser disabilities need the prescribed certificate from a government health institution.

Equal marks are resolved, in order, by: fewer negative marks; a higher percentage in the qualifying degree; older age; and alphabetical order of name.

Seat allocation

Seats are allotted online only, in order of merit and choices, applying each institute’s own policies on institutional preference, community reservation and PwBD, through a process AIIMS calls Institute-wise Synchronized Allocation of Seats (In SAS). There is a mock round, at least two rounds, and an open round; the detailed schedule is announced separately. The seat list is published before results and does not change after them.

Selected candidates undergo a medical examination by a board appointed by the institute and join only if found fit. No travel allowance is paid for the examination or for joining.
