PG Admission

NEET-PG and INI-CET — who can sit them, the papers, fees, qualifying percentiles and dates — and the DNB and armed forces routes that run through them.

NMC has published the postgraduate seat matrix for 2026–27
On 29 September 2026 the National Medical Commission sent medical colleges and the Medical Counselling Committee the Seat Matrix for Postgraduate seats for the academic year 2026–27, as on 29 September 2026. The letter says the matrix is subject to revision on the decisions of the Appeal Committee or any other competent authority, and that it leaves out seats applied for as an increase in intake or as new courses, which will appear in a later updated matrix. Colleges are directed to admit only against approved seats. A page compiled from the seat matrix has not been written yet; the letter is linked below.

New guidelines on assessing candidates with benchmark disabilities
On 16 September 2026 the National Medical Commission published Guidelines on Assessment of Persons with Benchmark Disabilities (PwBD) for Admission to the Post Graduate Medical Courses, 2025. They direct the Medical Assessment Board to decide each case on whether the candidate can acquire and perform the essential competencies of the discipline applied for, with or without reasonable accommodation, rather than on the percentage of disability alone, and they state that a disability is never by itself a disqualification. A page compiled from these guidelines has not been written yet; the document itself is linked below.

There are two entrance examinations for MD, MS and PG diploma courses in India. NEET-PG, conducted by the National Board of Examinations in Medical Sciences, is the single entrance for almost every institution — All India Quota and state quota seats, private and deemed universities, armed forces institutions, and DNB courses. INI-CET, conducted by AIIMS New Delhi, covers the Institutes of National Importance that sit outside NEET-PG: the AIIMS institutes, JIPMER, NIMHANS, PGIMER Chandigarh and SCTIMST Thiruvananthapuram.

Under the Post-Graduate Medical Education Regulations, 2023, admission is to move to the National Exit Test once the first NExT batch becomes eligible; until then, NEET-PG continues. Counselling pages — MCC’s All India Quota counselling and each state’s own — follow once the 2026 PG counselling bulletins are published.
