MBBS Student Years
MBBS in India runs 4½ academic years in four phases, then a one-year compulsory internship. How the course is built, and the attendance, assessment, exam and time-limit rules.
Two documents govern the MBBS course for current batches. The Graduate Medical Education Regulations, 2023 are the notified regulations, published in the Gazette. The Competency Based Medical Education (CBME) Curriculum 2024 guidelines, issued by the National Medical Commission’s Undergraduate Medical Education Board, apply to batches admitted from 2024-25 and carry the detail on phases, attendance and examinations. Where the two differ, both are shown.
Each university builds its own detailed curriculum on this framework, so a college’s rules can add to what is recorded here.
