NMC has published the MBBS seat matrix for 2026–27
On 21 September 2026 the National Medical Commission sent medical colleges and the Medical Counselling Committee the Seat Matrix for Undergraduate (MBBS) courses, excluding the Institutes of National Importance, for the academic year 2026–27, as on 18 September 2026. The letter and the Medical Assessment and Rating Board’s public notice say the matrix includes approvals granted by the Board and by the first and second appeal committees, and remains subject to revision on the decisions of the Appeal Committee or any other competent authority. Colleges are directed to admit only against approved seats, and counselling committees may not permit admission against seats in excess of those approved. A page compiled from the seat matrix has not been written yet; the letter is linked below.
Admission to MBBS in India runs through one national entrance test, NEET (UG), conducted by the National Testing Agency, and then through two separate counselling systems: the Medical Counselling Committee for All India Quota, central and deemed university seats, and each state’s own authority for the state quota. The pages below record the national layer from the 2026 documents. State quota, domicile and bond rules are being compiled state by state.
